Graduate Program

The M.A. program in Speech-Language Pathology prepares students for professional careers as speech-language pathologists. As an accredited program by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, graduates meet the academic and clinical education standards established by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) for the Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) and the New York State License in Speech-Language Pathology granted by the New York State Education Department (NYSED). Our graduates pursue professional careers in a wide variety of clinical and educational settings in which they provide services to individuals across the lifespan with a wide range of speech, language and hearing disorders.

Graduate student clinicians provide diagnostic and therapeutic services to children and adults residing in the Bronx and in neighboring communities through our Speech and Hearing Center, and there are volunteer opportunities for undergraduates as well. In addition, students enrolled in the undergraduate and graduate programs have the opportunity to participate in ongoing research projects conducted by the faculty and are encouraged to present research findings at local, state, and national professional meetings.

The Department seeks to instill in students, the ability to think analytically, the understanding and use of emerging technology as it relates to the professions of speech-language pathology, and the importance of lifelong learning.
