Welcome to Lehman College of the City University of New York

Lehman College is one of the Bronx’s preeminent anchor institutions. The College is named for Herbert H. Lehman, a towering figure in New York’s history who was a champion for social justice. The College embraces his legacy and its history as the first location of the United Nations and the place where the Declaration of Human Rights was signed. As a community, we have an unwavering commitment to embody the values underlying those hallmarks by providing quality higher education to all. Students come to Lehman from many places, and two-fifths of them were born outside the United States. What they have in common is their determination to learn and their noteworthy accomplishments, both during their time at the college and after they graduate.

Lehman students annually receive prestigious national recognition, including Fulbright, Soros, Schwarzman, Gilman, National Science Foundation and National Institutes of Health grants and internships, as well as Boren and Watson awards. We are proud of the dozens of awards received by our students each year, and we are equally proud of each of the more than 3,000 students who graduated, many of whom overcame formidable challenges on the way to their degrees. Lehman’s five schools serve nearly 14,000 degree-seeking students and another 13,000 students who earn certificates and other credentials. Guiding these students are outstanding professors and instructors who are also winning national awards. Lehman’s faculty engage students in original research and creative work, helping to open doors of opportunity and growth. Learning and discovery by students and faculty is made possible by the exemplary work of the dedicated College staff members who maintain buildings and grounds, advise students, organize out-of-class activities, schedule classes and in many other ways work together to create a supportive, well-functioning environment. Out of the many individual and group efforts emerges a community of learners and achievers that makes Lehman a nationally top-ranked engine of economic and social mobility.
