Voice and Speech Analysis Laboratory
(Speech and Hearing Center, Room B29)

Photo 1In their academic coursework, graduate students obtain instruction and laboratory experience using objective acoustic and physiologic instrumentation. In clinical and diagnostic practica, students are provided with opportunities to integrate instrumentation into clinical practice. The Voice and Speech Analysis Laboratory, located in the lower level of the Speech and Hearing Center, is maintained and supervised by Dr. Stephen Cavallo.

The following acoustic instrumentation is available in the Speech and Hearing Center's Voice and Speech Analysis laboratory for the assessment and treatment of speech and voice:

  • Computerized Speech Laboratory (CSL-4400)
  • Visipitch IV (3950)
  • Nasometer II (6400)

Photo 2Electroglottography (EGG) is available for the monitoring vocal fold medial contact area. Spirometry is available for measuring vital capacity (VC), which can be used to calculate phonation quotient (PQ), and interpret measures of maximum phonation time (MPT).
