Individual Counseling

About Individual Counseling

  • Sessions focus on specific issues that affect academic, personal and social functioning
  • Counseling is an active process, with both the student and counselor participating
  • If long-term therapy and/or medication is recommended, students will be referred to a community mental health provider

  • Meet weekly during the Fall and Spring semesters
  • Supportive and educational, covering various topics
  • Typically last 45-75 minutes
  • Free, confidential, and open to all registered Lehman College students

Crisis Intervention & Emergency Services

  • We assist with crisis intervention and referrals for emergency services.
  • If you or someone you know is having an emergency or is in danger of hurting themselves or others, please:
    • Call 911
    • Call NYC WELL (888-692-9355)
    • or visit the nearest emergency room for immediate services.
  • We are not available outside of our business hours.

LGBTQIA+ Services and Outreach / SAFE ZONE

LGBTQIA+ Services and Outreach / SAFE ZONE

  • Services to meet the needs of our lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, gender non-conforming, questioning, intersex, pansexual, and demi/asexual population.
  • The LGBTQIA+ Hub is a CUNY-wide initiative that includes information about campus events, LGBTQIA+ studies, leadership programs, and more.
  • Lehman is a Safe Zone host - enlisting members of faculty, staff, and student body to act as visible allies to LGBTQIA+ students
    • Participants attend a training workshop on LGBTQIA+ issues and violence prevention
    • Participants identify themselves as official allies by posting Safe Zone placards in their offices or on their desks, or by wearing Safe Zone pins and stickers.

Safe Zone Ally Training

  • Available to schedule for classes, student groups, or staff
  • Learning how to be a supportive ally
  • Supporting LGBTQIA+ individuals around the challenges they face
  • Visibly identifying students and staff who support the LGBTQIA+ population
  • Participants are eligible to receive social media badges.

Mindfulness Resources

Mindfulness Resources

  • Free membership available to The 10-Minute Mind, an app-based mindfulness program that sends you daily meditations (sign up with your CUNY email)

  • 45-60 minute in-class presentations on various mental health topics
  • Topics include:

    • Depression and Anxiety Awareness
    • Healthy Relationships
    • Stress Management
