Lehman College students posted standout results in the Bloomberg Global Trading Challenge, finishing first among teams from participating CUNY and SUNY institutions and placing in the top five percent of nearly 2,400 teams worldwide.

Five Lehman teams entered the investment competition, held from October 13 to November 15, each managing a virtual $1 million portfolio. They competed with others across the globe by selecting, executing, and overseeing equity trades on the Bloomberg Terminal.

The Challenge is one of the hands-on learning opportunities embedded in Lehman’s business programs. Students learn how to work as a team, how to evaluate information under pressure, and how to make responsible investment choices using real market data in a setting that mirrors real-world portfolio management.

“Participating in the Bloomberg Global Trading Challenge gives our students the opportunity to move beyond theory and step directly into the fast-paced world of financial decision making,” said faculty advisor Alexander Núñez-Torres, associate professor of management and business innovation.

The experience builds confidence and skills that will help them excel as they transition into professional roles.

“Seeing a Lehman team place so highly speaks to their commitment and the growing culture of experiential learning we are building in the Bloomberg Lab,” said Núñez-Torres. “All of the strategy, the research, the debates, and the decision making came directly from the students. They drove the entire process forward, which makes their accomplishment even more meaningful.
