2024 Convocation Highlights the Best in College and Community
In recognition of his strong connections to Lehman College and his work to support The Bronx, NY Assemblymember and alumnus Jeffrey Dinowitz ’75 was honored with the President’s Medal at the College's convocation ceremony on Wednesday, Sept. 19. Dinowitz is a life-long Bronx resident and friend of the College.
The annual convocation ceremony celebrates the College’s accomplishments and recognizes faculty and staff who have gone above and beyond in their service to the college community. This year's honorees were Professor of the Year Juan-Jesus Payán, associate professor of Languages and Literature and Adjunct Professor of the Year Jorge Fernandez Soriano of the Physics and Astronomy department. Darina Qalfleshi, Rina Fontenele, and Corina Rojas were presented with the Outstanding Contributions to the College award.
In his remarks, Professor Soriano spoke about the way successful teaching and learning requires both faculty and students to step out of their comfort zones.
“What I suggest for this academic year is that we do our best for the other, and also demand the best from the other.”
The event culminated in a surprise, when Director of Public Safety Fausto Ramirez was surprised with a special Outstanding Leadership award for his decades of service and dedication to the safety and wellbeing of everyone on campus.
