E-mail Reference Service
Contact Library faculty by e-mail with brief questions. (Fields marked with a red * are required.)
What is available through E-mail Reference?
Questions of any kind may be posted, but it is best suited for brief, fact-based questions, access problems, or queries related to best resource options, or starting points for research. Library faculty will assist with research-related tasks, including brief instructions on using the online catalog, databases, and other resources.
However, we will not interpret information; provide legal, medical or financial advice; or complete answers for class assignments. For in-depth research consultations, visit the Library in person.
Does E-mail Reference answer “factual” questions?
This service does not provide answers to "factual" questions (e.g., "What is the G.D.P. of China?"). We may instead recommend resources to help answer your question.
How long will it take to get a response?
We generally respond to questions within 48 hours, excluding weekends and holidays.
What if I don't receive a response?
One of the most common reasons for not receiving a response is mistyping your e-mail address. Please confirm your e-mail address before clicking the "Submit" button. If you haven't received a response within 48 hours (excluding weekends and holidays), you should resubmit your question and make certain your e-mail address is correct.
Can't wait for an answer?
Call the Library's Reference Desk, 718-960-8580, during library hours or use the 24/7 Chat option on the Ask Us page. Read Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) for answers about major library services.
