New Lehman College Initiative Expands Telehealth Counseling in the Bronx

September 22, 2025

The Bronx Telehealth Counseling Center (BTCC), is now up and running, thanks to the efforts of professors Stuart Chen-Hayes and Michelle Bell, Nicole Saint-Louis, and Anna Locke, who all played key roles in launching the initiative. Publicized in a recent Riverdale Press article, the BTCC expands free telehealth family, couple, group, and individual counseling services to residents of the Bronx, and is a response to the pressing need for access to mental health services in the borough.

“The Bronx has been so underserved, and our mission is to close the gaps in access and affordability,” Chen-Hayes told the paper. “That means offering free counseling, led right where the need is greatest—and telehealth is the future.”

The Center is staffed by master's degree students in Lehman College's clinical mental health counseling and social work programs, who practice under the supervision of faculty and licensed clinicians and provide virtual counseling sessions at no cost. Clients can access services through a simple online platform, which provides flexible and convenient counseling options.
