Biography

Mauro Trejo

Mauro has demonstrated a commitment to serving the New York City communities throughout his career. As the Scholarship Program Coordinator, he manages the budget allocation of distinct project funds of the academic & student services unit. He also oversees the professional development programming of fellowship, scholarship, internship, and mentorship programs. Additionally, Mauro is part of the Feria Internacional del Libro de la Ciudad de Nueva York (FILNYC) organizing committee in charge of logistics.

Before joining the Mexican Studies Institute, he was part of the consular protection department at the Consulate General of Mexico in New York, assisting numerous Mexican nationals living abroad in the Tri-State area seeking protection of fundamental civil and human rights. Mauro holds a B.A. in Criminology with minor studies in Political Science from John Jay College of Criminal Justice in CUNY and an Advance Certificate of Immigration Law Studies from the CUNY School of Professional Studies. During his academic journey, Mauro was awarded The CUNY Mexican Studies Institute Scholarship from 2016 to 2019 and received recognition for serving the immigrant community in the Brooklyn Borough Hall in 2018.
