FDNY Certificate of Fitness G60: Torch Use of Flammable Gases
Cutting, brazing and welding of metals present serious fire hazards (open flames, scattering sparks and hot pieces of metal), and hazards of using compressed oxidizing- and flammable gases. FDNY requires that all persons using flammable gas torches must individually obtain the G60 C of F.
The G60 C of F replaces the G38 (Oxygen/Flammable Gas Torch) C of F. All current G38 Certificates of Fitness will remain valid until their expiration dates, but G38 C of F holders must be re-certified for G60. The requirements for obtaining the G60 C of F are the following:
- Read the G60 Study Materials from FDNY;
- A letter of recommendation must be completed by your supervisor or department chair and printed on departmental letterhead;
- Complete the C of F Application Form (A20);
- Complete the Employee Affirmation Form.
G60 candidates must pass an exam on the regulations. The exam is conducted at FDNY headquarters (9 MetroTech Center, Brooklyn, NY 11201).
Please email EH&S for more information about obtaining the G60 C of F.
