Nursing Academy Names Dr. Catherine Alicia Georges a 2019 Living Legend
From the Chair, Dr. Catherine Alicia Georges
The Department of Nursing at Lehman College (DON) acknowledges the great contributions of all nurses, health care workers, EMTs, fire fighters, police officers, and the citizenry who have contributed to the safety of this nation during the COVID 19 pandemic in this country. We are especially proud of the graduates of our undergraduate and graduate programs who continue to provide quality health care services to our communities throughout the New York region and the country.
The Department of Nursing, a department in the School of Health Sciences, Human Services, and Nursing, offers undergraduate and graduate nursing programs to a culturally diverse student body. Its undergraduate nursing program includes the traditional generic and an accelerated program, and the registered nurse completion track, which has an online option. Its graduate Masters program currently offers two tracks of specialization: pediatric nurse practitioner program, and a family nurse practitioner program. It also offers post-master’s certificates in both the pediatric nurse practitioner and family nurse practitioner tracks. The Doctorate in Nursing Practice (DNP) admitted its first students in Fall 2020.
The DON's new Strategic Plan 2021-2025 incorporates the recommendations of the 2020 -2030 National Academy of Medicine The Future of Nursing 2020-2030: Charting a Path to Achieve Health Equity. The DON has developed several partnerships over the last few years with a variety of nursing organizations and health care agencies. In the last decade the Department of Nursing developed an innovative foreign nurse program and offered several upgrades and training programs for various health care agencies in the greater New York area.
In all its present and future endeavors, its faculty is committed to excellence in teaching, scholarship, and community service. Members of the Department have served and will continue to serve as leaders in professional nursing organizations, national and international organizations, and as mentors to current students and alumni.
