The School of Education upholds the Lehman College commitments to access, excellence and multicultural understanding through academic departments that are dedicated to the development of dispositions and practices that affirm diversity, creativity, critical thinking, integrity and technological expertise of 21st century tools and skills. The School of Education is comprised of three departments: Counseling, Leadership, Literacy and Special Education; Early Childhood and Childhood Education; and Middle and High School Education, offering more than twenty-five nationally recognized and/or New York State-approved teacher, counselor, and educational leader certification and advanced certificate programs. In addition, the School of Education hosts two institutes and one center that are essential to the community outreach of Lehman College: The Literacy Institute, The Bronx Institute and The Center for School/College Collaboratives.

Approximately, 44 full-time and 100 part-time education faculty draw upon a richly diverse body of knowledge and experience to inform their practice as teacher, school counselor and leader educators. Faculty come together at the interstices of numerous disciplines and practices, and multiple perspectives and ways of knowing, because they share a common commitment to urban transformative education. Faculty are actively and equally engaged in teaching, research, student advisement and program effectiveness.

Through continuing partnerships with Pre-K-12 schools and districts, community and non-profit organizations, families and current Lehman students and alumni, the School of Education serves the Bronx and surrounding communities, with the hopes of improving the quality of life, educational equity and access for people of all ages and backgrounds. Faculty and staff work with our partners to provide professional development opportunities and collaborate on several other undertakings, which include use of data, evidence- based practice, research, scholarship and service, to transform the power of urban education in closing achievement, opportunity and attainment gaps and to ensure college and career readiness for every student.

The School of Education was re-accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) in 2021, while its Counselor Education program was re-accredited by Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) in 2019.
