All faculty members should establish a CUNY Portal ID as soon as possible. It is necessary to create a portal ID to have access to Blackboard, which is the University Online Portal. Even if you don't plan to use it, it is a useful communications tool for students.
In addition to Blackboard, the CUNY Portal provides access to useful reports and databases.
Make sure all forms and documents required to receive benefits have been completed and filed with the Office of Human Resources, located in Shuster Hall, Room 230.
Pick up your Lehman College I.D. from the Office of Public Safety as soon as possible. You will need your I.D. to access the Leonard Lief Library, the Information Technology Center, and the APEX.
Check the ID Schedule for opening hours and closing days.
All faculty are assigned a Lehman College e-mail address through the Mirapoint E-mail System. The general format of these e-mail addresses is: firstname.lastname@example.org. Duplicate names have a number, e.g., John.Doe2@lehman.cuny.edu.
If you are having a problem activating your account because of a duplicate name, please contact the Information Technology Center. All Lehman faculty members must have a Lehman College e-mail address; however, Mirapoint can forward your e-mails to other servers.
Check with your Department Chair's Office for keys to your office, washrooms, and elevators.
The south parking lot is reserved for faculty parking. Parking stickers for this lot can be purchased from the Campus Activities Office located in Shuster Hall, Room 080. There are also a number of reserved parking spaces available for an additional fee in other parking lots, such as the one behind the bookstore.
The platform used by CUNY for online teaching is Blackboard. Blackboard also can be used to facilitate communication with students in your classrooms to post syllabi and assignments. You are strongly encouraged to become familiar with the Blackboard system, which is available through the CUNY Portal.
If you witness behaviors that threaten an individual or campus property, don't hesitate to contact Public Safety immediately at the Department's emergency number, 718-960-7777.
The Office of the Registrar distributes class rosters. Rosters may change during the first weeks of class and are finalized approximately the last week of September for the fall semester and in February for the spring semester.
You can obtain updated rosters from your Department prior to the final one, which you will receive from the Registrar's Office.
If students are engaged in inappropriate, but non-threatening behavior, please report it to the Office of Student Affairs, located in Shuster Hall, Room 206, or at 718-960-8241.
It is important to identify as early as possible students who may be in academic difficulty. Students who may have a problem with literacy or assignments can be referred to the Instructional Support Service Program/Tutoring, located in the Old Gym Building.
The Student Health Center, located in the T-3 building, provides office visits, physical examinations, women's health visits, men's health visits, immunizations, vaccinations, in-house lab testing, prescription medications, and over-the-counter medications for students, among other services.
The Counseling Center assists students with emotional, developmental, and psychological concerns that may be affecting their personal and academic growth. The Center serves the Lehman College community by providing individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, educational outreach, and supportive consultation to faculty, staff, and the administration. For further information about the Counseling Center's services, visit the Old Gym Building, Room 114.
The Career Services Center (CSC) at Lehman College assists students by integrating career development, job opportunities, internships, and technology into their academic experience. For further information on the Center's services, visit Shuster Hall, Room 254, or the Career Lab in Shuster Hall, Room 229.
Academic integrity is an important issue. Therefore, it is vital that you understand all policies regarding academic integrity. Details on academic integrity can be found in the College's 2009-2011 Undergraduate Bulletin and the Faculty Report Form available in the Office of the Provost. If you have any questions regarding this issue, contact the Office of Academic Standards and Evaluations at 718-960-8104.
At the end of each course, students are given the opportunity to evaluate the course using a scan-sheet-questionnaire. Course evaluations constitute an important part of decisions regarding tenure and the Certificate of Continuous Employment (CCE). It is your responsibility to see that these are conducted. Evaluation forms and scan-sheets are available in your Department at the end of each semester.
If a person requests information about a student's performance, attendance, or any other personal information, refer him/her to the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs in Shuster Hall, Room 206, or at 718-960-8241. No faculty member should discuss personal student information with anyone other than the student.
You may receive a notice from the Office of Special Student Services if a student with a disability is registered for one of your courses.
If you have any questions about what constitutes reasonable accommodations, contact the Office of Special Student Services at 718-960-8441 or 718-960-8931 (TTY).
The PSC-CUNY contract provides all new tenure-track faculty with twelve hours of released time to be taken within the first three years of appointment. The purpose of this released time is to facilitate faculty scholarships and creative works. Faculty members should discuss with their Department Chair the timing of their access to this entitled released time. A form is provided for this purpose.
In addition, Lehman College and the City University of New York offer several awards to help in the advancement of your scholarly work while you are part of the University. Visit the Lehman Office of Research and Sponsored Programs for a detailed listing of available intramural awards.
Please review Lehman's policies on grading undergraduate students, which can be found in the College's 2009-2011 Undergraduate Bulletin. If you have any questions regarding completion of the final grade-sheet, consult the Chair of your Department.
