Sociology is the scientific study of social life. It is the exploration of social change and a lens into the complexity of the causes and consequences of human behavior.

Sociology majors must complete 38 credits (11 courses) in Sociology.
After completing either a 200 level sociology class or Sociology 166 all majors must complete the following courses:
- SOC 300: Sociological Imagination
- You must complete SOC 300 before taking SOC 302
- SOC 301: Methods of Sociological Research
- You must complete SOC 301 before taking SOC 303 or SOC 345
- SOC 302: Sociological Theory
- SOC 303: Advanced Methods of Sociological Research
- SOC 345: Quantitative Analysis of Sociological Data
In addition to the 20 credits specified above, majors must select a concentration and take an additional 18 credits (6 courses) in Sociology selected based on that concentration.
- Demography and Population Health
- Education, Social Inequality and Urban Studies
- General Sociology

The Minor in Sociology consists of five courses totaling 15 credits. At least three courses must be at the 300-level or higher.
