Student Disability Services at Lehman College

Grievance Policy/Appeals Process

We are committed to working collaboratively with students and the campus to provide access to all students registered with Student Disability Services.

Every effort is made to ensure that students with disabilities are provided with appropriate accommodations and academic adjustments which are determined on a case by case basis.

In the event that the accommodations do not meet the students’ expectations and they wish to appeal a decision, they should first meet with the Director of Student Disability Services. If the issue is still unresolved the student should meet with a representative from the Office of Student Affairs and/or its Chief Student Affairs Officer.

In accordance with CUNY Policy, if the questions about academic adjustments/accommodations remain, the student may file a written complaint with the 504/ADA Coordinator who will mediate to try to resolve the issues to find an acceptable accommodation. If a mutually acceptable accommodation cannot be determined, then the 504/ADA Coordinator, or a designee, will investigate the complaint and make a recommendation to the College President, who will make the decision concerning the complaint. If the student believes that a decision to deny the request was based on unlawful discrimination, then the student may exercise any and all rights available under law without fear of retaliation, including filing a complaint with the United States Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights (“OCR”).
