Lehman School of Business Professor Showcases Bloomberg-Focused Teaching at National Symposium

Alexander Núñez-Torres on stage at the Bloomberg Academic Symposium

July 2, 2025

Associate professor Alexander Núñez-Torres of the School of Business presented at the 2025 Bloomberg Academic Symposium on June 26, where Michael Bloomberg delivered opening remarks. In his talk,  “Teaching with the Terminal: Equity Valuation Research,” Nunez-Torres shared how he integrates Bloomberg Terminals into his finance courses to deliver hands-on, experiential learning.

“During my session, I explored how embedding the Bloomberg Terminal into finance education transforms the classroom into a live lab—where students learn not just theory, but how to think and act like analysts in a dynamic industry in the real world.”

One of his courses, "Financial Research Using Data," empowers students to research stocks, track markets, and practice financial analysis in real time by using Bloomberg Terminals. This allows students to work directly with the same tools professionals use on Wall Street, helping them build real-world skills while still in the classroom.

Those students, just like all Lehman students, can then earn Bloomberg Certifications in Bloomberg Finance Fundamentals, Bloomberg Market Concepts, and Environmental Social Governance at no cost. This approach has fueled a dramatic rise in student engagement with the Bloomberg Lab. Student usage increased twentyfold, from 33 students in Spring 2023 to 609 by Spring 2025; 398 Bloomberg certifications were completed—a 59% increase from the prior year—and over 70 students earned elective credit for completing all three Bloomberg modules. With growing faculty involvement and continued support, Lehman’s Bloomberg Lab is now a model for applied finance education, and a standout success story in student career preparation.

“I was honored to join a vibrant group of educators and professionals at Bloomberg, all committed to reimagining how we prepare students for the future of finance,” said Núñez-Torres. “These conversations reaffirm the value of innovation, collaboration, and real-world learning in shaping tomorrow’s leaders.”
