Two of Lehman College's Adult Learning Center (ALC) staff, Senior Case Manager Magaly Almonte, and Literary Zone Coordinator/Case Manager Yndiana Alba, were on the dais at a March 29 event celebrating the strength and leadership of women in the Bronx community, where they were honored by New York State Assemblymember George Alvarez.

Almonte began her journey as an ESOL student at the Lehman College ALC, navigating the challenges of learning a new language while striving for academic and professional growth. Through years of dedication, she not only mastered English but also earned her master’s degree, proving that education can transform lives.

Alba has made a lasting impact on the lives of many. As a Literacy Zone Coordinator, she has played a crucial role in creating safe, supportive spaces where ESOL and GED students can access resources, education, and opportunities to succeed.

In recognition of their dedication, both Almonte and Alba were presented with a Certificate of Appreciation by Assemblymember Alvarez. What's more, their contributions to the community earned them an invitation to the New York State Capitol on April 9 for "Dominicans in Albany: Empowering Our Community Through Unity"—a special event highlighting the contributions of Dominicans in New York.
