Blackboard is a web-based course management system used for conducting a class entirely or partially online. Blackboard may also be used to supplement traditional classroom instruction with materials accessible over the Internet. Every Lehman College credit-bearing course section has a corresponding Blackboard course section ready to be used by the instructor.

The Department of Information Technology Resources is conducting introductory workshops for instructors who would like to use Blackboard in their spring classes or who are interested in learning about the system for possible future use. The sessions are intended for instructors who have little or no experience with Blackboard. Participants should, however, be familiar with a word processor and a browser such as Internet Explorer and Netscape and should be able to manage in either a Windows or Macintosh environment.

The workshop will cover administrative and course management issues such as usernames, passwords and enrollment; network access; a brief overview of tools for adding content and for collaboration; and a brief demonstration and hands-on exercise in adding simple content such as syllabi and announcements. Advanced topics such as adding complex content, online assessments and synchronous collaboration tools such as virtual chats will not be covered in this introductory level session. These topics will be covered in sessions to be scheduled later in the spring.

The workshop will be repeated three times. Each session will last approximately one hour. The sessions will take place in the Information Technology Center, Plaza Level, Carman Hall. Register by contacting the IT Center Help Desk at (718) 960-1111 or via email at helpdesk@lehman.cuny.edu.  Check at the Help Desk for room location on the day of the session.
