Professor Brenda Williams-Gray

Professor Brenda Williams-GrayBrenda Williams-Gray, D.S.W., is an Assistant Professor at Lehman College/CUNY in the Social Work Department where she teaches practice and social work with children and adolescents in both the undergraduate and master’s program; supervision and administration in the MSW program serves as a faculty adviser; and curriculum chair of the practice sequence. Her DSW was conferred by CUNY; Post Masters Certificate in Child and Adolescent Treatment and MSW from Fordham University and BSW from Adelphi University.

She has 20 + years’ of clinical, supervisory and leadership experience in social service agencies including work with children and families with emotional and behaviors challenges.

Past positions include: Assistant Director for the New York Foundling Fontana Center for Child Protection; Director of Accreditation Commission at the Council on Accreditation in New York, where she implemented an assessment of organizational capacity to identify organizational needs and strengths relative to enhancing capacity and effectiveness; the Vice President for Community Youth Programs, Family Service of Westchester and a Unit Director at the Children’s Village.

Her interests and expertise are in the areas of trauma & resiliency, culturally diversity & critical race theory, and organizational capacity. Her publications in peer reviewed journals include articles on: resilience in the lives of adults with sickle cell disease, ethnic sharing, and critical thinking in administration practice.

Her book chapters include: protective factors for healthy reintegration of veterans, in Promoting Resilience; children in war in the second edition of Play Therapy with Children and Crisis; and the framework for culturally responsive practice in Culturally Diverse Parent-Child and Family Relationships.

She is the recipient of a Faculty Fellowship Publication Program (FFPP) and a contributor of the HERSA Federal Grant for Culturally- Informed Behavioral Health Services for At- Risk Children, Adolescents, and Transitional Youth and Their Families.
