Are you looking to develop your leadership skills and contribute to the strategic direction of your organization? This program will focus on the role of a leader in effectively and ethically designing and implementing strategy within organizations across any industry. Special emphasis will be placed on communication, teambuilding, global leadership and innovation. (Class 1 on Zoom; remaining classes asynchronous)

Upon completion of the certificate program, you will be able to earn up to 3 graduate credits applicable towards Lehman College’s Master’s Degree in Organizational Leadership (MSOL)

Prerequisite for certificate classes/program: HS/GED/TASC. To be eligible for three MSOL graduate degree credits, you must have a BA/BS degree..

Leadership Techniques and Effectiveness

Effective leadership is a primary factor and predictor of organizational success. If you have business or not-for-profit leadership experience, this course will equip you with an understanding of what leadership is and how you can develop the skills required to become an effective leader in your organization. Emphasis will be placed on leadership theory and ethics, identifying your own leadership style and developing a plan for further growth and development.

SOL 01 / 4 sessions / 14 hours

Strategic Communication

You will examine the function of communication within the context of complex organizations. Emphasis will be placed on the evaluation of the roles and responsibilities of leaders as communicators, while focusing on a variety of communication problems typically experienced in organizations. Various strategic communication theories and techniques will be explored with opportunities for students to readily apply these concepts to their own organization.

SOL 02 / 4 sessions / 14 hours

Collaboration and Diverse Teambuilding

Challenge the traditional top-down leadership style with leadership competencies that will enable you to lead using a team-based approach. You will learn how to cultivate collaboration, empowerment and information sharing. This course will explore strategies for leaders to dissolve organizational silos and promote team-centric communication allowing for agility, autonomy and goal attainment.

SOL 03 / 4 sessions / 14 hours

Global Leadership and Innovation

You will gain an understanding of the challenges and opportunities involved with leading diverse, innovative organizations. A leader’s ability to approach diversity from a perspective that can use individual differences to empower followers is imperative in the global marketplace. This course will explore the changing role of leadership within multicultural and multinational organizations, while identifying the skills necessary for preparing organizations for success in globally diverse environments. A unique focus of the learning will explore the interconnectedness between diversity and innovation.
