Frances Lai Baca has a BFA in Modern Dance Performance from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where she received the Elizabeth Ann Pulaski Memorial Scholarship, graduated with honors and an award for Outstanding Performance in Modern Dance. She received her MFA in Dance from New York University Tisch School of the Arts. Frances is honored to have performed works by Merce Cunningham staged by Rashaun Mitchell, Bill T. Jones staged by Janet Wong, Fernando Bujones, Brian Sanders, Roni Koresh, Christopher Huggins, Sylvana Cardell, Deborah Jowitt, Curt Haworth, Faye Snow, Rachel Berman, Myriam Herve-Gil and Scott Jovovich.
As a freelancer Frances has worked with a number of choreographers, some highlights include appearing in an off Broadway musical and an appearance with Forces of Nature. As a member of Refractions Dance Collective she has performed works by Sarah Donnelly, Charmy Wells and several guest choreographers. She has presented her own choreography at Dance New Amsterdam, Greenspace, the Actors Fund Arts Center, the Harlem Repertory Theatre, TADA! Youth Theater and The Ailey Citigroup Theater. Frances is an ABT® Certified Teacher, who has successfully completed the ABT® Teacher Training Intensive in Pre-Primary through Level 3 of the ABT® National Training Curriculum. She has attended the Lester Horton Teacher Workshop for Introductory through Advanced Levels and the Limón Workshop for Teachers- Teaching Contemporary Limón. In addition to dance Frances teaches GYROKINESIS®, GYROTONIC® and Pilates.
