CSI Downs Lehman, Lightning Remain Tied For First

Staten Island, NY- The College of Staten Island men's tennis team picked the perfect opportunity to halt its four game losing skid this afternoon, turning back CUNYAC-rival Lehman College by a score of 6-3 earlier today at the CSI Tennis Center. The win moved the Dolphins to 4-5 overall this season, but more importantly, 2-1 in conference play. Previously undefeated in CUNY, the loss leveled Lehman College to 3-3 overall, 3-1 in CUNY play.

The Dolphins got out of initial doubles play ahead 2-1. At No. 2 doubles, the team of Kevin Williams and Sandhun Mendis improved to 3-2 overall this season, with an 8-3 victory over Lehman's Mark Peart and Yongda Leung. At No. 3 doubles, CSI's Gregory Leal, Jr. and Anton Vilinskiy were nearly untouchable, scoring an 8-2 win over the Lightning's Ahmed Attia and Rabiera Hansrav.

When the match moved into singles, CSI needed to split the six flights to earn a win, but the Dolphins went one better, capturing flights three through six to earn the uneven victory. Included in the wins were 6-0, 6-1 showings by Williams and Mendis in the Nos. 4 & 5 flights, respectively. Anton Vilinskiy earned a 6-2, 6-3 third flight win over Peart, while Jillany Iqbal moved to 6-1 this season with a 7-5, 6-1 win over Attia.
