Lehman Downs John Jay In Men's Basketball Action

New York, N.Y.— Lehman College shot 63 percent (17-for-27) from the floor in the first half and led gate-to-wire as John Jay, who were without their top playmaker and leading rebounder, fell to the Lightning 67-53 at the Doghouse on Friday.

The loss leaves John Jay at 6-17 (5-6 CUNYAC) while Lehman is now 7-15 (4-7 CUNYAC).

Lehman grabbed a double-digit lead (18-8) with 12:43 to go, and built their first half lead to as much as 19 in the opening stanza (38-19 with 2:13 to play) before going into halftime with a 40-25 lead.

The visiting Lightning led by as much as 25 in the second half (61-36) and never looked back en route to victory.

John Jay did put together an 11-0 run late in the second half to chop the deficit to 14 (61-47) with 3:35 to play. But the two teams would trade baskets the rest of the way as John Jay falls under .500 in conference play.

The Bloodhounds were paced by Vaughn Mason (Bronx, NY Alfred E Smith) with 18 points, while Alex Valerio (Flushing, NY/ Francis Lewis) had 12 points and a game-high 13 rebounds as John Jay outrebounded Lehman 43-32, including 18-8 on the offensive end.

Kyle Lockett (White Plains, NY/ Alexander Hamilton) paced Lehman with a game-high 19 points, while Duane Rhoden (Bronx, NY/ Dewitt Clinton) added 13 and eight assists.
