London, CT- Mitchell College Baseball took two from Lehman College
Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field in their home opener. Mitchell moves to 3-3
on the season and 2-0 in the City University of New York Athletic Conference
(CUNYAC). Lehman ends the day at 1-3 over all and 0-2 in CUNYAC play.
The Pequot’s jumped out to an early lead with junior shortstop Seth Nowakowski (Preston, CT) first inning home run on a one and one count. Nowakowski’s rip soared over the left field fence. Mitchell found their second and final run of the game in the second inning when sophomore first baseman Ken Pabst (Stonington, CT) crossed the plate on a passed ball. Mitchell finished the game with 2 runs, 8 hits and 1 error. Senior pitcher Sal Messina earned his first win of the season in his second start. Messina finished game one with eight strike outs. The Lightning finished game one with 0 runs, 3 hits and 1 error.
In game two it was Nowakowski again with his second home run of the day, this time with a runner on base. He finished the day 2-3 with a double in the first inning. Freshman pitcher Jeremy Chapman (Waterford, CT) earned his second win of the season, finishing the game with five strike outs while giving up 3 hits. The Pequots finished with 4 runs, 4 hits and 2 errors. Lehman ended scoreless with 3 hits and 2 errors.
Lehman pitcher Adam Kolinoski threw six innings allowing eight hits and striking out three batters in the opening loss. Kolinoski goes to 1-1 overall for the season. In the night cap, Jose Garrido allowed four runs in the loss for Lehman.
