was born in Rochester, New York in 1912. He studied at the Beaux Arts Institute (where among his teachers was Paul Manship, the sculptor of the Paul J. Rainey Memorial Gateway at the Bronx Zoo); New York School of Fine and Industrial Arts; Columbia School of Fine Arts as well as in a number of art centers in Europe. Terken has been employed as Advertising Manager for the National Sculpture Review, the Board of Education Services, Long Island District and was a delegate to the Fine Arts Federation, NY, and taught at the East Meadow H.S. on Long Island. Terken was awarded the Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation Award; Lindsey Morris Memorial Prize, National Sculpture Society; and Contemporary American Artists Award, American Artists Professional League. He has been a Fellow of the National Sculpture Society where he also acted as a member of the council, secretary and vice president; Fellow of the Hudson Valley Art Association; Academic Artists Association; and the Art League of Nassau County. His work was exhibited at the National Academy of Design; the National Arts Club, NY; Hudson Valley Art Association, Westchester, NY; Academic Artists Association, Springfield MA; and the National Sculpture Society, NY. Terken completed commissions for the New York Board of Education, Ceramics as a Craft for Occupational Training Center, P721; Eagle Foundation, Salisbury Park, East Meadow, NY; New Horizons, Hempstead Town Plaza, NY; Richard Henry Dana Monument, San Juan Capistrona Historical Society, CA; Colonial Lad for the Bicentennial East Meadow Public Library, NY; and Three Metaphysical Pioneers, commissioned by Phineas Parkhurst Quimby, Emma Curtis Hopkins and Ernest Holmes.
