Steel installation
New York City Board of Education Percent for Art Program

Butterfly Garden is an installation that adds an experience of nature to the daily life of the students and teachers at P.S. 34. The environmental designer and artist Vicki Scuri transformed a former asphalt playground into a field of living things. The central structure, a butterfly gazebo, is composed of colorful perforated steel and Lexan screens in organic shapes. Cedar planters surround this structure with more than 3,000 plants and bushes, which attract butterflies. Butterfly trellises provide shade and shelter. The trellises, also in steel, contain curvilinear shapes. In her work, Scuri invites us into a vivid world that changes with the seasons.
