Suspended Mind, a monumental installation in The Carl Sagan Discovery Center in Montefiore Children's Hospital, includes an array of Tom Otterness' signature cartoon-like figures, frolicking on and around a Foucault pendulum. The pendulum, invented by Leon Foucault in 1848, moves with the rotation of the earth. An inverted head with a smiling face gently swings over a map of the world. This whimsical bronze sculpture provides an entertaining focal point as well as a science demonstration.
