West Tremont Avenue
For painter Cándida Álvarez, stained glass is associated with contemplative and religious spaces. She has designed three tiers of stained glass windows for the atrium of I.S. 206. The windows are on a north-south axis. Intrigued by the brilliance of the medium Álvarez has created a greater range of hues by layering the glass in the lead slots. Each piece of glass is hand painted. In some the brushwork is visible, others have the hatching scratched into them. The imagery of the windows relates to the curriculum studied by the junior high school students who use the building.
