Public
Art Workshops
These Arts for Public Schools projects are large-scale and vary from mosaics
to murals. The final work is installed as permanent public art in the
school. These workshops not only teach students a wide range of art skills,
but are also structured to develop democratic thinking and cooperative
learning in the studio and beyond. In the studio, students develop their
own ideas for designs, discuss the possibilities, vote, and then work
together in groups. Strategies for linking the art workshop with the school
curriculum are discussed with classroom teachers so that arts based learning
can develop and grow with the other lessons learned. When the final work
is installed, students discover that they have the power to beautify and
change their environment for the better.
