Workshop: Museums in the Classroom

Workshop: Museums in the Classroom, a course offered in collaboration with Lehman College in the summer semester, encourages the use of New York City’s vast cultural riches as an important resource for classroom studies. The course is intended to help teachers develop ways to use museum collections in the curriculum. Lehman College Art Gallery exhibitions, the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the art galleries in Chelsea provide the primary lab for developing strategies for teaching with objects. Teachers meet with artists, are introduced to computer-based research techniques in the Lehman Library, and Lehman art studios provide the location for hands-on studio activities. This 3-credit graduate course is offered with a tuition waiver and made possible through a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services. THE COURSE WILL NEXT BE OFFERED IN THE SUMMER OF 2013 AND IS LIMITED TO 20 STUDENTS.
