CUNYAC Men's Baseball - March 25, 2002
Player of The Week - Michael Guarneri, CSI Sr, 5'8, C/2B, Staten Island, NY
A spirited team captain on the field,
Guarneri and his team are starting off the
season on the right foot. Last week, as
the Dolphins went 4-1, the Tottenville HS
alum batted 12-19 (.632) with four runs,
three steals and eight runs batted in. In
the first game of a road sweep against
John Jay he was 3-4 with two runs scored,
two doubles and four RBIs.
Pitcher of The Week - Tom Wohlfit, CSI Fr, 6'2, P, Staten Island, NY
A freshman hurler from Moore Catholic
HS, Wohlfit has stepped right into the
Dolphins rotation. In two games, the native
Staten Islander had two wins and
seven strikeouts in 11 innings of shutout
work against John Jay and USMMA. Currently
he sports a 1.80 ERA in four appearances
(15 innings) for CSI.
Rookie of The Week - Miguel Jaquez, John Jay Fr, 6'1, C, Brooklyn, NY
Jaquez has been a bright spot for the struggling
Bloodhounds, who went 0-5 last
week against Staten Island and Lehman.
Besides getting a hit in every game (8-19,
.421), Jaquez scored six runs, had six
RBI's and stole six bases. A graduate of
Telecommunications HS in Brooklyn,
Jaquez has started behind the plate for
all 12 of Jay's games this season.
