Bronx, NY - Queensborough Community College and Manhattan C.C. will meet on Saturday afternoon at 1:30 for the 2004 CUNY Athletic Conference Community College Championship after they each won semifinal matches on Thursday afternoon. Queensborough edged two-time defending CUNYAC champions Bronx C.C. by a score of 1-0 and Manhattan knocked off Kingsborough by a 10-0 margin.
Michael Egbele’s goal in the 28th minute held up for Queensborough, despite the fact that Bronx controlled much of the play in the second half. Egbele collected a ball and drilled a low-liner into the right corner of the net. Bronx missed a golden opportunity by hitting a post in the final moments of the contest.
Manhattan, who led 5-0 at halftime, scored four goals in the final ten minutes of the first half to pull away from Kingsborough. Freshman Juan Carlos scored two goals in the opening stanza and sophomore Nizar Chahbani put the game out of reach with three goals in the second half. Takuma Komiya added a goal and two assists.
Prior to Saturday’s 1:30 championship game at Bronx, Kingsborough and Bronx will meet in the consolation game at 11:00 a.m.
