STEM Scholars Program

"I want to go into cancer research. I like knowing that these professors are the type of people I’m going to be working with.”

— Herminio Torres, a student at Hostos Community College

In this program, promising STEM students from the two Bronx CUNY community colleges — Hostos Community College and Bronx Community College — pursue summer laboratory research and training at Lehman. In addition to hands-on lab work, the students meet weekly as a group with their mentors and with the program director to present their most recent experimental data. At the end of the summer, they present papers and posters based on their work, which are then displayed at their home campuses and at Lehman. CUNY Chancellor Matthew Goldstein has provided funding for the first year of the program for stipends, tuition and fees, and materials and supplies used by the students in their research projects.
