Lehman College has been designated as a U.S. Federal Government Depository Library since 1968, which means that selective federal government publications since that date are made available, so that the public may have access to them. The Library receives approximately 32% of the publications issued by the federal government and an additional small number from New York State. These publications are cataloged and distributed throughout the Library in the same categories as books and periodicals. A small documents area, however, exists on the main floor, next to the reference stacks, with specialized indexes to government publications and searchable online databases. Government publications are regularly received on topics relating to recent legislation, the Congress, Supreme Court decisions, the census, economics, history and public health.
