Lehman Student Elections
Each spring the Board of Elections at Lehman College schedules and administers annual elections for the Student Government Association (SGA). Student Government provides a unique opportunity to serve the Lehman community. Members of SGA plan and organize a comprehensive program of social and extracurricular events that enrich the campus culture. Members of the Student Legislative Assembly or SLA are senators in the Lehman College Senate. The Senate reviews and approves all academic programs and policies for the College. Each body meets monthly and more often than not includes a subcommittee meeting. The Lehman College Association for Campus Activities awards stipends of varying amounts to SGA members on the condition that members attend regularly scheduled meetings.
In addition to SGA other boards exist that provide an opportunity to lead. The Judicial Board elects students every two years. Through its advisory opinion, the Judicial Board seeks to reconcile disputes or problems arising between student organizations, committees, and independent boards whether elected or appointed. The Judicial Board shall have the power to make recommendations governing the policies of all organizations.
Students may also serve as an appointed member of other campus boards including the Board of Elections, the Student Election Review Committee (SERC), and the Communication Facilities Board.
In closing, I invite you to seriously consider either running for campus office or submitting your name as a candidate for an appointed position. Check your campus e-mail accounts and watch the campus bulletin boards for Notices of Regular or Special Elections.
