For-profit colleges need to put the interests—and futures—of their students before those of shareholders and investors. In an op-ed essay published by City & State, Lehman College President José Luis Cruz and LaGuardia Community College President Gail Mellow applaud Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s proposed "For-Profit Accountability Act” because, if passed, it will mandate greater instructional spending by the for-profits and also help protect students when they are defrauded. “We need to treat education—and an educated citizenry—like the public good it is.”
