Prof. Sanford Giving Two Talks in L.A. Area
November 8, 2010

Professor Victoria Sanford
Professor Victoria Sanford (Anthropology), just back from her presentation at the University of London, will speak at two gatherings this week in the Los Angeles area. The first, on November 10, is titled "The Land of Pale Hands—Impunity and Violence in Guatemala" and will be presented at California State University, Northridge, in a lecture sponsored by its Central American Studies Program. The second, on November 12, is a keynote address for a special event sponsored by the Society for Ethnomusicology. The Society is sponsoring a Cross-Disciplinary Conversation on "Anthropology, Community Collaboration, and Human Rights." Professor Sanford will discuss her work in Guatemala and her recent return to Panzós, the site of a 1978 massacre against Maya peasants by members of the Guatemalan Army.
