Celebrating the Spanish Language
November 4, 2010
Dr. Gerardo Piña-Rosales (Languages and Literatures), right, was in Toledo, Spain, last week where King Juan Carlos I of Spain presented the presidents of the Spanish Academies with the Don Quijote Award for their contribution to the New Spanish Grammar. As president of the North American Academy of the Spanish Language, Dr. Piña-Rosales accepted the award on behalf of his Academy. He has won several honors and awards in recent years: he was one of three recipients of Lehman's 2010 Award for Excellence in Research, Scholarship, and Creative Work; he is the honorary president of Sigma Delta Pi, the national collegiate Hispanic honor society; and his novel Desde esta cámara oscura (From This Darkroom) won the prestigious 2006 Ayuntamiento and Casino de Lorca Prize.
