Lehman senior Alyza Brown was recently elected as the Undergraduate Student Member-at-Large of the New York City chapter of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW). Her one-year term begins in September 2010, when she becomes a voting member of the chapter's Board of Directors as well as a member of a Board committee or task force.
NASW is the world's largest organization of professional social workers in the world, with over 150,000 members. The board of the New York City chapter includes one undergraduate student representative and one graduate student representative.
"I am really excited," said Brown. "It's an incredible honor."
Brown was recommended for the prestigious position by Professor Evan Senreich of Lehman's social work faculty. He praises her as "an outstanding student" who is "very enthusiastic about social work. She absolutely deserves it." After graduation, Brown plans to pursue graduate work in the field.
