Zhirong Wu, deputy director of Shanghai Normal University Libraries and a digitization specialist, visited Lehman's Leonard Lief Library in October, bringing an exchange of library faculty between the Chinese and New York institutions one step closer to reality. Wu was invited to New York as an honored guest at the meeting of the Library Association of the CUNY Institute on Library Leadership. After the conference, he gave a presentation on the resources and services of the libraries he represents.
"CUNY is in the process of establishing an exchange of library faculty with both Shanghai Normal and Shanghai University," explains Lehman Chief Librarian Kenneth Schlesinger. "Both Lehman and Shanghai Normal University Libraries are excited about the prospects of this upcoming exchange, scheduled to begin in Spring 2010."
Professor Kachuen Gee of Lehman’s library faculty played local host to Wu, providing translation services and accompanying him on his various visits to other campus libraries. Thanks to Gee, Wu received a special tour of the Chinese historical collections at the New York Public Library and got to experience a Broadway show.
