Campaign Gifts 2000 - 2006
Title V $425,000
Lehman College received a Title V Grant that matched on a dollar-for-dollar basis gifts up to $425,000. Spearheading a campaign in honor of Founding President Leonard Lief, the College raised more than $600,000 to surpass the goal of increasing the endowment by $1 million.
LCU Foundation $200,000
The LCU Foundation has made grants of $200,000 for housing assistance. These funds have been used to aide women who were living on the economic edge and experiencing housing crises. In many instances, the recipients went on to graduate, often with distinction.
Candido Maldonado ’79 $141,000
Candido Maldonado left a bequest to Lehman College for a student majoring in history in honor of History Professor Joseph Dauben, whom Candido described as distinguished. Serendipitously, Dr. Dauben became a CUNY Distinguished Professor at the time that the scholarship was established. In his will, Maldonado credited Dr. Dauben as a person “…without whose encouragement I would not have graduated.” Maldonado’s widow, Rachel, described him as “a generous man with an enormous heart and a modest income.” Mr. Maldonado served in the United States Marine Corps and worked for the New York City Transit Authority.
New York Community Trust $101,000
Friends of the College who wish to administer their gifts through private foundations have made their gifts through the New York Community Trust. We are grateful for their quiet, yet sustaining, support of our students and programs.
