Derek C. Wheeler
Derek C. Wheeler was appointed as Vice President for Administration at Lehman College in September 2001.

Up until this time, he had been Vice President of Administrative Services and Chief Financial Officer at Bergen Community College (NJ) since 1996.

A graduate of Dartmouth College, Mr. Wheeler holds an M.B.A. degree in public and non-profit management and accounting from Columbia University. He has previously held a number of senior positions in municipal government both in New York City and Washington, DC.

At Lehman, Mr. Wheeler oversees the accounting, budget, business, campus facilities, human resources, payroll and public safety functions.

Mr. Wheeler began his career at Hofstra University, as Assistant Director and then as Acting Executive Director of a street academy co-founded with Nassau County. Over the years, he worked at Bronx Community College, first as Project Director within its Continuing Education division and later as Business Manager and Assistant Administrator.

From 1981 to 1986, he served in the District of Columbia government, as Assistant Director of the District's Office of the Budget and subsequently as Chief Financial Officer and Assistant Director of its Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs.

Before joining Bergen Community College, Mr. Wheeler was Executive Deputy Administrator of New York City's Human Resources Administration, where he served as Chief Financial Officer of the City's largest mayoral agency. Prior to that, he was Deputy Director of the New York City Office of Management and Budget and was responsible for the budget, financial planning and capital programs of municipal agencies during the City's fiscal crisis in the early 1990s.

During his five-year tenure at Bergen Community College, he oversaw construction and renovation of two major classroom facilities, the funding of a new technology education center, and reorganized and consolidated its administrative and academic computing services by introducing network technology.
