Dr. Michael Paull

Dean of Adult and Continuing Education and Associate Professor of English

Michael Paull
Dr. Michael Paull has been Dean of Adult and Continuing Education at Lehman College since 1987 and has administered one of the region's most successful programs for adult students, serving over 7500 men and women annually.

Over the years, Lehman's array of credit/certificate programs has succeeded in significantly expanding worker education, especially in the areas of health care and school reform.

These programs have been established in partnership with unions (Local 1199 and DC 37), with such institutions as Montefiore and Bronx Lebanon Medical Centers, and with government agencies, community-based organizations, and private foundations. From February through September 2001, Dr. Paull also served as Lehman's Interim Vice President for Administration.

A graduate of the University of Michigan, Dr. Paull earned his master's degree from Cornell University and his Ph.D. in English from the University of North Carolina. He began teaching at Lehman in 1968, as the College was first being organized, and has taught both undergraduate and graduate courses in his specialty, which is medieval literature, in particular the works of Chaucer. He entered the field of higher education administration in 1973 when he became director of Lehman's Freshman Composition Program and subsequently also directed the College's Curriculum for Self-Determined Studies, an honors program in which students designed their own areas of concentration.

In 1983, Dr. Paull was appointed as Assistant Dean of Individualized Studies, overseeing the College's degree program for adult students, and then was named Associate Dean in 1985, responsible for both this program and the College's new initiative in continuing education.
