Lehman Alumnus Takes Helm as Borough President

Borough President Rubén Diaz, Jr.
Highbridge Voices will give an opening performance at the ceremony, followed by a Color Guard consisting of The Fordham Ram Battalion. Sheikh Mousa Drammeh and Rabbi Avi Weiss will deliver the invocation. Lehman President Ricardo R. Fernández will bring greetings, which will be followed by a dance performance by Las Carbenas Dance Group. The program will also feature a spoken word performance and a video presentation.
Former Borough President Fernando Ferrer will present the Borough President for the swearing-in ceremony. At the conclusion of the event, Sister Thomas and Reverend Michael Lopez will deliver the benediction.
Borough President Diaz was elected to his office on April 21. Previously, he served in the State Assembly since 1997, representing the 85th Assembly District. His work there included service as chair of the Committee on Election Law and membership on the Standing Committees on Education, Ways & Means, Children and Families, Environmental Conservation, and Transportation. He was also a member of the Assembly's Puerto Rican and Hispanic Task Force and the Black/Puerto Rican and Asian Legislative Caucus.
Borough President Diaz, Jr. succeeds Adolfo Carrión, Jr., who left this position to become the White House Director of Urban Affairs.
