N.Y.S. Assembly Honors Music Professor

Music Professor Diana Mittler-Battipaglia received a surprise during the spring concert of the Lehman College and Community Chorus, which she directs: Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz presented her with a proclamation from the New York State Assembly for her lifetime achievement in music. Professor Battipaglia began teaching at Lehman in 1986 and soon after launched the choral ensembles, which began with sixty members and now boasts over one hundred singers drawn both from Lehman and the community. Born in New York City, Professor Battipaglia began her music career at age ten when she earned a scholarship to attend Julliard's School of Music's pre-college division. At 13, she won a competition to play with the New York Philharmonic in Carnegie Hall. An accomplished pianist and flutist, she has performed with the New York Philharmonic and other major orchestras and is cofounder of the Con Brio Ensemble.
