Lehman sophomore Jocelyne Jeannot and freshman Sushanta Singha have been named Jeannette K. Watson Fellows. The three-year program offers paid summer internships, mentoring, and enhanced educational opportunities to New York City undergraduates who demonstrate exceptional promise, outstanding leadership skills, and commitment to the common good.

Jeannot is studying political science and mass communications. For the past two years, she has participated in the American Cancer Society Relay for Life and has volunteered for New York Cares since 2004. She is also the three-time winner of the Tavern on the Green Annual Hat Competition, for which she designs and makes her own elaborate and artistic hats. A graduate of New York City's Eleanor Roosevelt High School, she serves as a Lehman Representative on the Macaulay Honors College University Scholars Council and is a student communications Intern at the Honors College, where she organizes and advertises a variety of cross-campus events.

An economics and political science major, Singha graduated from the Manhattan Center for Science and Math. He has expressed strong interest in both the sciences and the arts. At Lehman, he was the freshman class representative to the Macaulay Honors College University Scholars Council and a member of the Capoeira Club. In high school, he was captain of his cross country, indoor, and outdoor track teams, as well as a member of the Desi Club. He has volunteered with organizations like Special Olympics and Top Soccer and also assisted at the Sri Lankan Buddhist Temple.

Both students are in the process of interviewing for internships. In the past, Lehman Watson Fellows have interned during their first summer at such organizations as the New York State Supreme Court and the Central Park Conservancy.

Previous Lehman College recipients are Jonnie Persaud (2000), Amer Assal (2001), Zubaira Zahid (2002), Emily Alicea and Alice Michelle Augustine (2003), Lik Chee Sim (2005), Kunchok Dolma and Kendra Pierre (2006), Mikaela Chase, Ansamma James, and Valerio Russo (2007), and Carla Whyte (2008).
