Lehman Wins Indoor Track & Field Championship
Lehman's men's and women's indoor track and field teams captured the 2009 CUNYAC Indoor Track and Field Championships March 1 at the New Balance Track and Field Center. This is the third championship win in four seasons for the women, and the second consecutive win for the men.
Sophomore Lauren Lourick won all three jumping events of the night, including the long jump (5.30m), triple jump (11.44m), and high jump (1.52m), while Dorothy Jean-Pierre picked up a big victory in the women's 1500-meter dash, finishing the event in a time of 5:11.15. Team members Julian Gravesand, Chianne Ashman, Sylvia Churchill, Michaelle Garcon, Janina Browne, Kara Planamento, Jillene Sennon, Shanoy Francis, and Jo-Ann Winter also contributed to the team's overall performance.
Leading the men's team was Pete Charles, who was named Most Valuable Performer, and earned 24 points for his team. He won the triple jump event with a leap of 14.41 meters and took first place in the long jump competition with a jump of 6.59 meters. Jase Franklyn solidified the championship by finishing second in the shot put competition with a throw of 13.42 meters.
Also delivering great performances were teammates Andre Gouldbourne, Andre Clark, David Mathews, Joseph Bodden, Eduardo Fanith, Shane King, Patrick Thompson, Oscar Kamalu, Irfan Anwar, RiShawn Marshall, Richard James, Shadel James, Andrae Raymond, Johan Lopez, and Matthew De Tiberiis.
