GEAR UP Summer Opportunities Fair a Success

Student Studying at the Library
More than two hundred Bronx Institute students attended the Institute's first GEAR UP Summer Opportunities Fair on January 21. The event brought together representatives from twenty diverse organizations to meet and recruit students for their summer programs.

Organizations in attendance included the Experiment in International Living; Longacre Expeditions; VISIONS Service Adventures; New York University Precollege; Choate Rosemary Hall; Embry Riddle Aeronautical University; Interlochen Center for the Arts; The Studio Museum in Harlem; and The Museum of Modern Art. Choate Rosemary Hall, in particular, offered to sponsor four Bronx Institute students for the summer of 2009.

The fair was organized and led by Bronx Institute staff members as a way to help students take advantage of available summer programs. "Overall, the event was very successful," explains Professor Herminio Martinez (Middle and High School Education), the Institute's executive director. "I am confident that these students are heading toward an active and productive summer experience."
