Grammy Winner Ray Santos to Visit Lehman Nov. 29

Ray Santos
Accompanying the performer on the piano will be Dr. William Rodriguez, principal of the Celia Cruz Bronx High School of Music.
In 1992, Santos was nominated for an Academy Award in the Best Song category for his arrangement of "Beautiful Maria of My Soul" for The Mambo Kings. That same year, he received the Grammy for Best Tropical Latin Album for Frenesi. A graduate of the Juilliard School, Santos has been a prodigious contributor to Latin music for the last half-century. His talk will explore the history of Caribbean music from the nineteenth century to the present day.
This is the second in a series of free cultural events sponsored by the Lehman College Music Education Community and Culture (MECC) project. The project is made possible through a grant awarded to Lehman from the Rockefeller Philanthropic Foundation for its partnership with the Celia Cruz Bronx High School of Music.
