'On Native Soil' Screening and Discussion Set for Dec. 11
The free screening is open to the entire campus community and will be followed by a panel discussion featuring Mary Fetchet, founding director of "Voices of Sept. 11," whose group was instrumental in the formation of the commission. Lehman Prof. Miguel Perez (Journalism, Communication and Theatre) will moderate the panel.
The event, jointly sponsored by Court TV, Cablevision, and Lehman College, will be preceded by a light lunch at 11:30 a.m. To make a reservation, call 866-419-4117 or e-mail remoi@courttv.com.
Narrated by Kevin Costner and Hilary Swank, "On Native Soil" details the individual stories, including miraculous feats of survival, that led to the creation of the commission and the publication of its recommendations to make America safer. It features never-before-seen interviews from those directly touched by the events of 9/11 and those on the commission, including Senators John McCain and Joe Lieberman and former top-level FBI and CIA counterterrorism officials.
While presenting provocative new details and exclusive interviews, the film focuses on the human side of the largest terrorist assault ever to take place in the United States. It examines the treatment of the events that led up to the attacks and reveals the efforts of a group of citizens who worked together to ensure that the 9/11 Commission would be convened and information disseminated to the public.
